What can you expect from this course?
You will be immersed in yoga philosophy for six months, studying relevant parts of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Bhagavad Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika and embedding them into a daily routine. You will learn how to chant part of the Yoga Sutras and how to make chanting a part of your practice. You will discover how the philosophy is connected to and reflected in an Iyengar yoga practice. And you can expect to go much deeper and find more meaning in your yoga practice involving philosophy, reciting of sutras, chanting mantras, and connect with a community of like-minded people.

‘Live’ Gatherings combined with Distance Learning Course
On a practical level, this program will consist of 5 gatherings over the course of 6 months. In preparation of these gatherings, you will participate in an online course developed by Gitte Bechsgaard. This Distance Learning Course includes recorded audio lectures, exclusively written reading material and recorded chanting in a call-and-response format. All of these are available for you to download and work with for yourself at home.

The gatherings consist of 5 5-and-a-half-hour afternoon sessions with Daniela and Hiske, in which we will:

  • Chant the first part of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and other relevant mantras or invocations as a group;
  • Practice asana and pranayama in a way that ties in with the theme of the relevant course module, and will allow you to reflect on the philosophical concepts in an asana context;
  • Discuss what you have listened to and read in the Distance Learning Course in a group setting;
  • Increase the ability to sit quietly and work on more contemplative practices.
